Mission
Bark Busters' mission is to promote clear and open communication between owners and their dogs using simple and effective training methods that appeal to the canine psyche. We help you understand your dog and communicate with it so it understands you. All dogs will chew, run, nip, bark and enthusiastically jump all over you, but with Bark Buster training, the dog will learn to modify its behaviour so it does what you want it to do. This is how we create happier families and happier dogs.
Bark Busters home dog obedience training therapists use techniques to encourage the dog to use his brain and, at the same time, to satisfy the dog's need for pack leadership. In the wild, dogs have a pecking order determined by a dog's dominance within the group. Problem or disobedient dogs are the result of dogs perceiving themselves to be higher up the pecking order.

About the Founders, Danny and Sylvia Wilson
 Bark Busters was founded in Australia in 1989 by renowned behaviour therapists Danny and Sylvia Wilson (pictured right). Their vision was to save as many dogs as possible from being surrendered to shelters or euthanised because of behaviour problems which were seemingly impossible to solve. Since then, Bark Busters has touched the lives of over 500,000 dogs.
Sylvia was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK and emigrated to Australia with her parents at the age of 5. Danny was born in Australia but was brought up near Newcastle-upon-Tyne and left for Australia when he was 26. It was years later when Sylvia was managing an RSPCA branch that she first met Danny. They realised there must be a way to stop dogs being returned to the shelter because of their behaviour, and that's how Bark Busters came into being.
Bark Busters has now grown to be the largest and most trusted dog training company in the world, with trained therapists helping dogs in Australia, New Zealand, the USA, the UK, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Israel, France and Belgium.
About New Zealand
Master Franchisees, Mike and Maria Blatch
 We are Mike and Maria Blatch and we are the Managers for Bark Busters in New Zealand. We also train dogs in the Hawkes Bay area and currently cover Wellington and Taranaki regions as well.
Our dog was eating our house, the deck, the French doors, three lounge suites.... you name it, it was all chewed and we were beside ourselves. We thought we had no other choice but to put her down, so we booked her in at the vets. At the eleventh hour a trainer from Bark Busters saved our dog’s life and gave us back a more enjoyable, happier pet. She was never going to be perfect but she was more manageable - we had the control and our life (not to mention our house!) back.
We looked into Bark Busters as a business for us down track. Mike was due to leave the Navy and we were looking for something else to do after that. We were impressed with the techniques and the lifestyle the business offered. For some months we did our homework on the business, talked to our accountant, Bark Busters Therapists, clients etc. Then we had a chance to meet and listen to Danny and Sylvia Wilson. They were so passionate about the methods they taught, the way things worked, and the people in their business.
It became apparent that this was a great company and family to belong to. We were completely driven and passionate to be part of this as well and were ready to buy a franchise. What the heck, we were just Average Joes who loved dogs and had never owned a business before. I mean, we were planning a move to a different part of the country, changing our children's schools, ending a 20 year life in the NZ Navy, so why not buy a business as well?? Were we mad? Probably. But the passion we saw in Danny and Sylvia and all the other therapists we met was too good to miss out on. The amazing knowledge of these people, the empowerment they gave to clients and that Danny and Sylvia give to us all made you hungry to learn more and be a part of it.
So……we bought the Master Franchise for NZ and haven’t looked back. Five years down track we are still as passionate as ever about what we are doing. We plan to carry this on into our old age because we can!
